TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY LIMITED EDITION JAPANESE BLU RAY
Released JUNE 24, 2015
Within a little more than a month period there are four new Terminator 2: Judgment Day bluray releases. One of them in the United States (Target online exclusive), one in Canada (mondo edition Best Buy Exclusive), one from Zavvi in Europe and one from Universal in Japan. The Canadian and European releases are steelbooks with new, stylized covers, while the US Target version is devoid of any fancy and cool packaging. The Japanese market often releases great editions of the classics, and they jumped the craze by releasing their own T2 limited edition. The set was announced as coming with some sort of physical extra, although not exactly specified what would it be. The recent Japanese The Terminator re-release came with two versions of the script.
What is immediately striking about this release is the cover. When US steelbook version was released two years ago with an endoskeleton in the fire on the cover, many hardcore fans were upset that the image was actually a fairly obviously T3: Rise Of the Machines still with a photoshopped fire over it and an odd lettering for the title. The T2 special edition released as a laserdisc had a high quality image of the endoskeleton in the fire from the opening scenes of T2, so such image does exist. Japanese Universal did not repeat the same mistake and instead gave us the correct version of such release. The image on the cover is indeed the still from the opening credits of T2 and the original Terminator lettering is back. This release is not a steelbook, but a slipcace however, but still looks great with its engraved title and an extremely catchy cover.
The physical extra is a booklet detailing the production and bios of most of the cast and crew, a nice little extra, although a photo booklet or two versions of the script would have been far more interesting. Nonetheless, for James Cameron fans and collectors out there, as far as the packaging, this is so far one of the best looking releases out there.
This limited edition bluray is a double disc release, with one of the discs devoted to extras.
